You Will Wish the Legend Was Over – Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004)

There is really not a lot you can say about Tremors 4 that has not been said about the previous three. It is a prequel that takes place in 1889 and as such, is a western. Michael Gross returns to play an ancestor of the character he usually plays, Burt Gummer, and the Graboids are called Dirt Dragons this go round. tremors4aYou can pretty much guess what happens with one of the saving graces being there are no Shriekers or Ass-Blasters to ruin the film. There is supposed to be some comedy in the picture, though you will have a hard time finding it and as for horror, it too is sadly lacking.

One of the only things that you can say is any good whatsoever is the returning Gross whose talent can be depended upon to at least make these sequels somewhat palatable despite the fact that they had completely run out of steam by this point. The movie runs for about an hour and forty minutes and it is approximately an hour too long. tremors4bIt drags on and on and on and on. There is just too much film for what amounts to a simple story and it makes it even worse because you can essentially predict what is going to happen next every step of the way. Things are slightly different as it is a western and of course, Kevin Bacon is nowhere to be found, but the events that take place are repetitious and by this time in the series, slightly boring and ever so tedious. Essentially putting on this film will make you want to do anything else but watch it.

The effects are decent, as they most usually are, but it was not enough to save this movie and if you want to see a Tremors film, go back to the beginning and watch the first and best of the bunch.
