Mega Shark Versus Mecha Shark is an utter waste of your time. It does have a cheesy bit of charm, perhaps due to the lack of any budget whatsoever and the fact that it calls back to those classic Toho films where Godzilla would battle other gigantic creatures. Sadly this film did not have even half the talent involved that any of those Toho movies had or a story that really engaged you. The script at least provides a lot of laughs as it is so bad as to be comical. One of the funniest bits is near the beginning of the film when the newscasters tell the world that there is another mega shark on the loose, like it is the most natural thing in the world. What also does not help is that most of the cast are amateurs by the sound and look of it with some of them being completely disinterested in what they are doing. If the cast cannot be interested, Elizabeth Rohm specifically, why should the viewer?

While Rohm essentially just phoned it in, she was probably the best part of the movie and that was only because the rest of it was just as bad. Her co-star Christopher Judge was decent and Debbie Gibson seemed way too at home in this film, like this was the gasp of a long career though she is sure to pop up somewhere else. Produced by The Asylum, the film responsible for some of the worst films in history, you would think that they would at least concentrate on procuring half-good actors or beefing up the effects, and instead they split it down the middle so that neither is better than the other.

You would think, that when all was said and done, a picture about a giant prehistoric shark fighting an enormous, man-made mechanical shark would be quite awesome and yet, it was not. Simply put, there is little redeemable about this film unless awful is something you really enjoy.
