The Kid wants Daphne’s unborn baby so that he might be born anew into a young, unsullied body. Doing so will destroy the soul of the child and kill Daphne in the process, something that neither Daphne nor Eddie want. So all they can do is fight back, and doing so seems impossible at this point. That being said, there is no other option, and that is exactly what they end up doing. There is a moment where they get away and believe they can fully do so before the building burns to the ground, professional arsonists having rigged the place earlier that night, yet it is just that, a moment. The Kid has more than one card up his sleeve, and, begrudgingly, Eddie and his fiancée, Daphne, are lured back to the top floor, where the demonic entity that wants their baby awaits. This final chapter of Demonic Toys had everything that one could ever want in not only a comic book, but a finale as well. With action, drama and high stakes galore, author Doug Campbell and artist J. H. Williams do not disappoint. While the story would be scary enough with the toys alone, The Kid makes it all the more frightening for the fact that he controls the toys and, more than that, he is a literal demon that can inhabit the bodies of full-grown men and use them like puppets. Daphne and Eric find themselves in a horrific scenario that would test the mettle of any person, and surviving it seems impossible; yet the two continue to fight because they now fight for something bigger than themselves. Aside from the human-demon drama, the titular demonic toys manage to put in a good showing as well; one of the better parts of the book is seeing them defeated, then making a comeback when The Kid gets his gumption back and casts a spell to grow them to immense size. Williams knows his stuff when it comes to this Full Moon property and Williams delivers the goods despite it being so early in his career. It is hard to say where the property could go from here, though of course, there are many ways that it could. The Kid is a demon, or some sort of demonic entity, and the toys, if they truly are alive, could have survived to scare another day. As a whole, Demonic Toys, the comic book series, was a lot of fun and definitely worth a look.
