The Kid is still looking to sacrifice Daphne so that he might possess her unborn baby, and while she is trying to put up a fight, there is not a whole lot that she can do all by her lonesome. Eddie, her boyfriend, is trying to make his way to her, yet he also has his hands full with the two saboteurs who have been hired to bring the entire building down thanks to some strategically placed bombs. Factor in some demonic toys which are far more deadly than anyone can possibly know, and things just seem impossible on both fronts. Suffice it to say, in a last-ditch offensive that was more luck than skill, Eddie manages to get away from the men and the toy soldier who was hunting him and makes it to the side of the woman he loves. All that remains now is getting out of the building alive. Things ramp up with this issue, far more than the previous two, and by the end, it really makes the reader want to find out just how it will all pan out. Doug Campbell does a great job with the script, finally revealing what it is The Kid wants, why the toys are here, and how it all pertains to Daphne. The reason is quite chilling and makes one wonder just how it is all going to work, even though he explains it all. Daphne does her best to hold it all together, but the horror that surrounds her is almost too much to bear. Coming into his own is Eddie, a guy nobody would ever think a hero and yet, here he is doing his best Bruce Willis impression and seemingly excelling at the role. Campbell creates a fun story, if not a scary one at times, as the toys, which are seemingly innocent, are not and features more than its fair share of chilling atmosphere. He creates a compelling tale that keeps the reader guessing, and with J.H. Williams on art, it looks good too. Surprisingly, while this is only the third issue, Williams has improved with every passing page, and while one cannot expect him to be as polished as he currently is today, he nevertheless has what it takes to make this book as scary as it needs to be. Demonic Toys is not what most might expect out of a comic, but it is entertaining and probably more enjoyable than it has any right to be. Good stuff overall.
