The Monster Society returns once again with Mr. Mind in charge and they have decided to increase their ranks by breaking someone out of prison. You would think that they would grab someone who could add some strength or power to the team but instead, much to the surprise of Superman and to the Society themselves; it is The Dummy who joins their ranks. If they were not already a joke, this just further proves that they are and some of the worst villains to ever appear in this book. One could make a case that Roy Thomas is using them as some sort of comedic relief, that after fifty-odd issues of a serious-type superhero book, it could use a little lightening up. Maybe it does and maybe it does not, but using these villains, with one named Ramulus of all things and their leader being a cartoon worm, it not the best way of going about it. The rest of the book is fine with a little action and drama to be had, but this version of the Monster Society just seems incredibly out of place and an odd fit for the book. A decent outing for the team, but there have been better stories than this one.
