Travis Morgan, the Warlord, is sitting atop some ruins of an old temple when he is attacked by a pack of wild dogs. Battling them off, he falls through a trap door and lands on a giant pile of treasure. He finds a shield to replace the one he lost a little while back, but as he picks it up the seemingly dead trolls that were standing guard, come to undead life and attack. Morgan tries to dispatch them without success until he sees that sunlight has an effect on them and thereby kills them. As he gets to the surface, the bird on his shield comes to life and carries him away from Shamballah, far away to land on some distant shore. Mike Grell delivers a pretty good issue filled with a lot of action and fantasy fun. This is your classic sword and sorcery issue with monsters and treasure and all the stuff you would normally expect to see in a book such as this. It was lacking character development, as it really did not feature any situations to warrant it, and it was missing all of the supporting characters which help make this book great. It was fun overall and even though it delivered a break from the ongoing storyline of Morgan trying to get home, it was kind of unneeded. Fun, but a filler issue. It does leave you wanting to see what happens in the next issue though, which is the way any good comic should end.
