X-51, the Machine Man is put under a series of tests by Kublai Khan in every conceivable way to see if his body will be the one to receive the Kahn’s consciousness. There is a lot of action this issue, just as there has been in many of the previous issues, but it feels like the series is not really going anywhere, simply spinning its wheels until its author can think of something that will stick. X-51 wants to get in touch with his humanity, but it seems like that mission has been taking a backseat lately to other events. Wolfman still does a great job scripting and Ditko’s pencils have never been better, but the book still seems a little directionless, especially after setting up Khan as a possible long-term villain only to have it supposedly finish up this issue. Good, but not great.
