The final issue of this series comes to a close and does so with a bang and it could not be any better. As per usual, E. Nelson Bridwell and Joe Gill craft a fine tale that keeps readers on the edge of their seats while Jack Sparling does a bang-up job of making it as exciting as possible with his fantastic pencils. The story involves the Syndicate once more and they are still after Tiger Force, the man who betrayed them. With a new leader and a renewed drive to get revenge, they plan to do so through the other members of the Secret Six, specifically Carlo Di Rienzi, a man known to the hired assassin who will do the job. With some careful planning, the Syndicate captures the man they need. They intend to break him in order to take out Tiger Force but Di Rienzi will not give in so easily and when a moment presents itself, he is able to make contact with the rest of the team so that they might turn the tables on the villains once and for all. As this goes on, the authors of this tale take a look back at Carlo’s past, of his family and their death and how the assassin who now holds him was the man who caused the tragedy which led him down this path and to the Secret Six. He is not happy about it, not in any way, but he now has the means to take his revenge on the man who cost him everything and it is all thanks to the Syndicate. They may think they have the upper hand but the tables have not turned and before they will even notice, Carlo and the rest of his team will bring them down once and for all. What is most impressive about this book is that there is nothing in it to say that it would be the last issue and yet the creative team would deliver on all fronts to make it one of the best issues of the entire series. They would also close out a longstanding plot point by ridding themselves of the Syndicate and freeing up their teammate once and for all. The only thing that remains and that would remain unsolved is the identity of Mockingbird which is a bit of a shame as it has provided a bit of fun throughout the entire run. As with every book that ends, not everything gets the conclusion it deserves, especially when it happens to be cut short and it is a little sad that readers will never know what happens to the team, at least until they show up thirty years later in Action Comics. All told, this was both a great issue and a solid way to end the series with some captivating storytelling and some fantastic visuals to top it all off.

Sounds like a fun conclusion, I’d love to read this series. But ‘Tiger Force’?
