In this second part of the story which began in the last issue, it finds the man named Schubert doing his best to take down Mark Harris, the Man From Atlantis as it were as well as his entire undersea base and those that inhabit it. As things have gone from bad to worse thanks to Mark, Schubert sees no other recourse than to tear it all down and simply start over again. It will not take much but first, he will unleash that deadly mist he has discovered upon the world, hoping that it will be able to enact the master plan that the villain had in mind as relayed in the previous book. This all comes about as his plans for Mark have failed, learning that he will never be able to control the Atlantean and so before Mark can destroy the place, Schubert will do it himself. This was a very fun tale, one where Bill Mantlo ups the stakes for the hero where one has to wonder if he will actually win the day or not. Making it all magically come to life is Frank Robbins once more who injects not only a good dose of passion in his pencils but a lot of excitement and action as Mark fights for his life and those he loves. Schubert is an interesting villain, a man who does not seem as evil as most though certainly just as conniving. It would have been nice to see the man’s motivations as to why he wanted to rid the world of humanity, or most of it anyway, aside from ruling it that is. There had to be something more to it all but as it is, readers will not hear of it in this book and one has to wonder if Schubert will return at some future date or if this was truly the end. Another perplexing question that sort of raises its head is why more people do not try to take advantage of Mark and his abilities as he is no longer that much of a secret. Suffice it to say, when all is said and done, this book and title turned out to be quite enjoyable and as to where it heads from here should be a lot of fun to follow.
