Geena Drake has seen the future and in it, the Guardians of the Galaxy die. So does she. Being stuck in a time loop of some sort, she now has the unenviable task of trying to convince the team of what is going to happen. Thankfully, and being the good team members that they are, they listen to her. Dan Abnett has brought the original Guardians of the Galaxy back and he has done so in quite the grand fashion, with a ton of action, excitement and bickering between races and the team itself. It is everything this book should be and more importantly, extremely fun. Abnett sprinkles the book with a lot of great characters and a lot of fantastic dialogue between those characters as they try and figure out what is going on, especially when Geena tries to tell Starhawk that she saw her as a man in that unrealized future. It is interesting to see what some of the characters readers know and love look like so far forward in time, including Gladiator and Star-Lord and it is very surprising to see the Supreme Intelligence battle to save them though it knew that its existence depended on them escaping the time loop. To think that the Supreme Intelligence would be a hero, of sorts, in the future was probably never on anyone’s mind. As for the Guardians, Charlie 27 always seemed to be the least exciting of the bunch, being the Strong Guy or the Drax of the bunch, but now it is a compliment instead of an insult as all three of the characters are much more intriguing than they have ever been before. Some might think that impossible given how uninteresting Charlie 27 had been but under the guidance of Abnett on this title, he is like the breakout hit one never knew was coming. Gerardo Sandoval provides the artwork for the book once again and while some might not like his exaggerated style, it fits like a glove the exceptionally bright colours by Edgar Delgado really highlight that. This book is a definite must-buy for any fan of the Guardians, new or old and given the creative team, it is a guarantee that those who do will love it.
