The Poison in the Apple, of which this story is called, finds the book taking a bit of a time jump that is never really fully explained but in that time, the Visitors have broken that tiny little peace treaty they had with Los Angeles and bombed it into ruins much like the Germans were doing to London during World War II. Cary Bates who writes this tale much like many of the previous ones in the series continues on as if nothing at all has happened though in reality, in the book, a lot has and now the Resistance is heading to New York to hopefully head off the Visitors before they decide to spread their reign of terror. On the scene are Mike, Julie and Willie and they have a meeting with the mayor who essentially shuts them down immediately as New York has been unaffected thus far and she does not believe that they will be a target when all is said and done. That is not the answer that was expected but those of the Resistance is not going to give up that easily and the mayor realizes that and decides to report it to her superior who is none other than Diana as the mayor herself is a Visitor in disguise. As it is, there is a bit of action in the book which is delineated by the great Carmine Infantino as Mike and Julie battle some other Visitors that are also disguised and who have been keeping tabs upon them and that is when they come to the realization that they were right to come to New York because it looks like the Visitors have already infiltrated the population, though as to how much that remains to be seen. Additionally, Diana has to deal with the continuing problem of Lydia who is looking to make things as hard as possible as she can for the lizard commander and readers have to know that there will come a point when Diana has had enough and will do something about Lydia in a very final manner. Despite a little bit of confusion as the book opened, it was like all the previous issues when said and done, a very entertaining chapter in this science-fiction saga.
