With John Carter arriving just in time to save Dejah Thoris from being executed, he now comes face to face with the man he refused to kill all those many years ago. It is a battle that has been a long time in the coming and Captain Clark, the man opposite Carter, is eager to have it. He has been waiting long enough to right the wrong that he feels was done to him when John Carter refused to kill him and he will have his vengeance no matter the cost. It is quite exciting to see the two Earthmen face off against each other as Carter rarely ever even sees anyone from his home planet anymore, instead forsaking it for Mars and everything that comes with it, a better home than he had ever enjoyed previously. Ron Marz and Abhishek Malsuni make the tension between the two men fairly evident and the action that takes place is fast and brutal with each man refusing to give an inch between them. Elsewhere in the issue Vush Tanzar plots against Dejah Thoris, determined to make her his in a very creepy and possessive way while still out in the desert is Tars Tarkas and his companions who are about to have a run-in with some angry looking Warhoons. Being who they are, John Carter and Dejah Thoris are tired of Captain Clark having the upper hand and controlling the game as it was, so instead of waiting to see what happens next, they take the fight to him in a duel that they know Clark will not be able to resist. To say that it is a gamble is putting it lightly, but nothing ventured, nothing gained and in this case, they are risking it all. It cannot be said enough just how good a book Warlord of Mars has become under the guiding hands of Marz and Malsuni. If one enjoys some good science-fiction pulp, then this book is one that needs to be read and once started, will never be put down.
