Fury has been kidnapped by Mr. Bones and when she awakens, she is on some ratty couch in their headquarters which is just an apartment belonging to one of those holding her captive. The villains call themselves Helix and are comprised of Mr. Bones, Kritter, Baby Boom, Penny Dreadful, Tao Jones and Arak Windwalker – no relation to the Son of Thunder. They are, as readers will be quick to surmise, a group of D-list baddies who despite being awful in a number of ways including design, tend to work well together as a team which is important considering what they have just done. Author Roy Thomas seems to be having fun with this new team of villains and yet that fun does not exactly transition well as the characters are just too terrible to enjoy, except perhaps for Mr. Bones. Back at the house that Lyta and Hector share, he has arrived home to find Lyta missing with Obsidian close behind and for whatever reason, Hector does not want Todd’s help nor the rest of the team. So it is that he heads out to take care of business by himself and as in most cases where it is six against one, he fails miserably. This issue would see some decent artwork from Todd McFarlane though the new costume design for the Silver Scarab would be a step in the wrong direction while also making readers wonder why Obsidian did not have a full-body outfit instead of the very strange and revealing leotard he currently sports. As far as artistic choices go, there are some strange ones in this issue and they are not for the better. Eventually, Obsidian goes to his sister Jade for a little help and has a quick vision of Thorn when he first sees Rose and readers can easily tell that this is going to play into the story in the next bunch of issues. As for the rest of the team, they do not appear in the book but they are sure to make an appearance soon as they will need the whole team together if they are going to defeat Helix. This was an okay issue in what seems to be a series of okay issues and it is hopeful that Thomas will be able to elevate the material at some point to really make it a must-read.
