Gemworld is coming apart at the seams and with the realization that Fire Jade is the former Lady Emerald and the one who is partly to blame for the current state of events, Amethyst, Prince Garnet and Princess Emerald must somehow put a stop to her. It is a shocking revelation, one that cannot be true and yet they must put aside personal feelings to do what must be done before there is nothing left to fight for. Coming on board this issue is Dan Jurgens and Karl Kesel who do a great job at making this battle as exciting as they possibly can. Despite it being three on one, Fire Jade is formidable and it takes everything that the trio can do to simply stave her off. Finally, Amethyst manages to separate the spirit of Lady Emerald from the monster called Fire Jade and that is when the tide finally turns in their favour. As it is, Lady Emerald who now looks to be among the living is not, though solid and looking as if she is alive, she is in fact not and will only remain as such for a short period of time. In addition to this, Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn finally reveal that Citrina, who is currently dying, will take Gemworld with her should she pass away. Fire Jade was but one part of the problem plaguing their world, her actions exacerbating the problems already present. So it is that Amethyst opens a portal that they may rush to Citrina’s side and hopefully save her from the death that is fast approaching her. Arriving upon the scene, they find that death is already awaiting her but at least she is conscious and so it is that she reveals that there is nothing that can stop it and that the Gemworld is indeed tied to her very being. There is one thing that she can do though, one thing that might save it all and it will involve Amethyst herself. The conclusion to this tale is a sad one but a hopeful one. Mishkin and Cohn wrap up a few of the plot threads they had been weaving with this issue, yet continue others as well as introducing a mystery, namely that of White Opal – brother of Dark Opal and just how he plays into things going forward remains to be seen but is sure to be exciting.
