Writers Dan Mishkin and Gary Cohn take readers on a journey with Amy as she heads back to Earth to spend some time at home and through Gemworld with Granch as he seeks to free his siblings from the Dark Dimension. For Amy, it is good to be back home but she soon realizes that she was gone much longer than she originally thought, her parents had called the police in the meantime and while they leave seeing that Amy is none the worse for wear, her parents are still quite fraught. An argument follows where Amy reveals that she knows she is adopted, something her parents have always feared would come out and it is not long before the thoughts enter their head of the woman in yellow who dropped her off all those years ago. As for Gemworld, there are a number of plays being made, most of them by Dark Opal who is both weaving a web figuratively and literally so that he might quash the final embers of rebellion against him. Part of that plan is capturing Citrina, or at the very least rendering her powerless which ends up working. The second part is to lure Amethyst back home and use Citrina as bait which remains to be seen in the next issue if one were to guess. As for the previously mentioned Granch, his quest takes him to the portal of the Dark Dimension which is guarded by a ferocious beast, a behemoth that he must best if he is to accomplish his mission. As it is, Mishkin and Cohn along with their cohort Ernie Colón make it a worthy battle with Granch coming out on top, though as to what may or may not happen next, that too will make readers wait until a future issue. With little bits of history and machinations involving Sardonyx and Carnelian, not to mention a finale that sees Amy decide to head back to Gemworld despite what her parents might feel, this issue was packed with everything that readers have come to expect from the title. What should make things really interesting are the results of Opal’s plan, if Amethyst really does rush in to aid Citrina or if she should gain some help along the way. As Amy/Amethyst has little in the ways of experience when it comes to those who can be deemed truly evil, she might be in for a surprise or two.
