In the second direct market exclusive issue, which Bill Mantlo and Steve Ditko go into during the first segment of the book which is all a bit meta in nature, it soon gets fairly dramatic as the Micronauts take a break from it all to unwind a bit and go over their current situation. The Endeavor needs repairs, perhaps more than they are able to give it and the fact that they have not been able to get the Stardrive repaired is more than a little troublesome. Back on Homeworld, things are not going any better for those that reside there as the new Force Commander, Argon is using everything out of Baron Karza’s playbook including keeping his enemies in the Body Banks, Lady Slug among them. The man is determined to eliminate the Micronauts no matter what he has to do and when Celicia of the Acroyears shows up, he has just found the perfect tool to use. After what seems like the book failing to ramp up the pace, Mantlo and Ditko make it happen and for the rest of the issue, it is all-out action as an Acroyear Battle Cruiser arrives on Earth, looking to destroy their former king and the rest of the Micronauts with him. The action is intense as the Acroyears are out for blood, the seeming betrayal of their former leader and the loss of their home planet being too much to bear. While they might be in a frenzy, the Micronauts are somewhat cool and collected, the team having been through this kind of scenario multiple times now and though they are none too happy about what is happening, they manage to give back as good as they get. What makes things even more interesting is the moment some of the local natives walk in on the battle, a few humans who thankfully take the side of the Micronauts and before long, the enemy who should not be an enemy is defeated. Though it might have started as one thing, it definitely ended as another and with that ending another massive problem for the Micronauts is revealed making their return to Homeworld in doubt should it ever happen. A great story from Mantlo with exceptional artwork from Ditko makes this issue of the Micronauts a must-read.
