The final part of the Project Pegasus storyline opens with The Thing and his compatriots defeated by Klaw, the Master of Sound. Be that as it may, his victory is short lived as he soon finds himself losing his ability to keep his form and thus, being sucked back inside his sonic emitter. While it might seem like good timing, it is in fact because of Wundarr who has reappeared on the scene, now going by the moniker of Aquarian – fully awake, conscious and no longer with the intellect of a child. While it looks as if everything is now going to be okay, there is still the matter of the traitor, one Thomas Lightner who was previously seen in Marvel Two-In-One as the villain Blacksun. Now calling himself the Nth Man, he is essentially a living black hole, sucking everything in around him and getting stronger as he does so. The worst part of it all is that he is inside of Project Pegasus and that means everyone’s lives are in danger. Ralph Macchio and Mark Gruenwald with the help of George Perez, return to put the final nail in this saga begun five issues previous and this time the heroes not only know what has happened to Wundarr – who explains it all, but they have an ace in the hole now to help them deal with the current threat. Eventually they get the idea that they might be able to defeat him from the inside and Bill Foster, a.k.a. Giant-Man, decides that he will be the one to do so as he is already dying from radiation poisoning. After doing as such, they find it made little difference and as so Aquarian, with a bit of help from everyone else, enters Lightner’s body as well, rescues Bill and starts to negate the villain’s powers with his own. The creators of this tale make it feel important, especially towards the end when everyone is fighting for their very survival and it all works out quite well. Even better was the fact that Ben’s guilt at having left Wundarr at Project Pegasus all those months ago is assuaged as the newly-minted Aquarian can do nothing else but forgive him as he loves his Uncle Ben more than anyone else. Thundra too managed to aid the heroes which was nice to see and as things wrapped up, she decides to stay on with Quasar and Bill. As a final note, the secret agency behind all that went on is revealed and it is a perfect ending as it cements the group as one that continues to make waves even forty years later after this issue hit the stands.
