Sunday Sessions – An Elvis Presley Christmas

elvis-blue-christmasIf there is one thing that can be said of The King of Rock and Roll, it is that the man was versatile. Elvis loved rock music and after bringing it to the forefront at a time where it was not so popular, and after singing it for years, the man would go on to record gospel albums, country music, movie soundtracks and finally Christmas albums. No matter what genre it might have been, the man’s voice could cross boundaries like no other and after hearing the crooners from decades past rule the Christmas roost for so long, Elvis would put his stamp on many of the classics including making new ones that would last for generations. Of course, you have to know that the Colonel was pushing for Elvis to record these as well, as the man was always looking to find a new revenue stream, but be that as it may, it worked out for the listening public as Elvis would knock them out of the park. Even better than just the standards he would record would be songs like Merry Christmas Baby, On a Snowy Christmas Night, The Wonderful World of Christmas, I’ll Be Home on Christmas Day and of course, Blue Christmas which would become a Christmas classic as well as a staple during his concerts during the holidays.  So whether it be thanks to the Colonel, to Elvis or the both of them, now when you think of Christmas music, you cannot help but mention the King during the winter season among all those that came previously and those that would soon follow.
