Doctor Strange has a secret and it is one that he has been keeping from Clea. As far as secrets go, it is kind of a big one as it involves his arch-enemy Baron Mordo who has been living upstairs in the Sanctum Sanctorum the whole time. The only upside to it all is that Mordo has essentially lost his mind, his body just an empty husk. This only comes to light when Mordo is heard screaming in the house and an investigation soon finds that it is Nightmare that haunts Mordo’s dreams. Steve Englehart and Gene Colan spin a magical tale that has Eternity making an appearance in the book once again, this time with a dour warning for Strange – the Earth is about to come to an end and there is nothing that he can do about it. Strange of course, refuses to believe as such and he means to find out how such a thing can be averted, but in the meantime, Mordo has made his way to the roof of the Sanctum where his astral-self flees from his body. Once more, Englehart packs this book with characters that are tied to his mythos and it is great to see Nightmare make a return to the book. There is very little Clea this go round, Strange’s apprentice having been more of a focus during the last arc and while it is always good to see her, a focus back upon Strange is welcome. At the moment, a confrontation with Nightmare seems inevitable, but as to whether this will avert Eternity’s prediction is unknown at the moment. One thing that continues to be a constant source of enjoyment is the dialogue and the script by Englehart. He always makes the book seem so grandiose, his words as magical as the powers that Doctor Strange wields and you find yourself hanging from every one. Additionally, the pencils by Gene Colan help to make this book a true page-turner as you continually look forward to what might come next, what wonder might be around the next corner. With Mordo, Nightmare and Eternity present in this issue, you know that big things are in store and that Doctor Strange and Clea are going to have their hands full.
