Big Brother Canada Ep.5 – And the Next Houseguest Evicted Is….

bbcan05OMG, what a night! This has been everything an episode of Big Brother should be. There were some funny moments, tons of drama, with a couple of twists and turns thrown in for good measure. Where do we even begin?

When we join the house guests after the PoV ceremony, everyone is trying to figure out who to vote for. The international house guests haven’t spent as much time with either nominee to really be able to make a calculated decision, so they’ve got an excuse for not being able to decide, but the rest of the house guests are just as indecisive, which surprises me. Just a few days ago the clear target was Loveita, but now they’re all second guessing themselves. At one point, Jared and Kelsey ask Joel who he thinks they should get rid of, though they don’t seem to like his answer when he tells them he’d choose Sharry. But they do seem open to his suggestion. He reasons that while Loveita is a strong physical player, Sharry is very socially and strategically dangerous and he’s not wrong. Though I would rather see Sharry stay, she has already proven to be more strategic than her friend.

But all this eviction stuff is too heavy. Let’s talk romance instead. Kelsey really likes Jared, but she’s never been one for commitment. She’s her own person and likes to do her own thing sometimes, which may be a bit of a problem, since he seems like the relationship kind of guy. I worry that she could totally break his heart, and she seems to know she’s capable of that too. Poor guy. She doesn’t want to hurt him, but it doesn’t stop her from flirting with both brothers. I have the feeling this may get her into some hot water at some point.

And who else seems to be getting close? Maddy and Nick. He says he’s a cuddler, so he really doesn’t see anything wrong about cuddling with Maddy, but when Phil catches them, he’s very clearly upset about it, because the brothers are mostly in with Kelsey and Jared and Raul, but Maddy is the enemy. Phil is worried that Nick’s canoodling with Maddy will get them kicked out because they’ll be guilty by association. Look what happened to Sharry, after all. I have to say, I feel a little bit bad for Maddy. Even though she sided with the smaller group of people, she seems like a decent person, and yet she’s treated like a lesser being because of who she has associated herself with. And this is why I’d probably lose this game – because I gravitate toward the underdog, and even if I was in the majority, I’d want to hang out with the outcast and then I’d be guilty by association too. I do wonder what’ll happen between Nick and Maddy though. They do kind of make a cute couple. Will Nick ignore Phil’s advice and continue to spend time with her? I guess a lot will depend on who becomes the new HoH.

Meanwhile, the house guests are all told that they’re slobs, so they’ve all got to bring all of their clothes out to be washed – and Joel and Cassandra have to do the washing. I find it hilarious that Princess Cassandra has to do any manual labour, but they get it done. Then they’re told that they have to take two clothing items from each person and donate them to charity. What they don’t know is that the other house guests are in on the joke, but in order to win a prize for the house, they have to act really upset about it, and upset enough to make Joel and Cassandra feel so bad that they offer to give up all of their own clothes instead. I have no problem believing Joel would do this. As a fellow nerd, I completely understand his quest for acceptance. He’ll probably do just about anything to not be hated in the group. So when the other house guests get really pissed off at them for giving away their clothes – Dallas even tells them that he’ll nominate them if he wins HoH – Joel feels terrible. Cassandra seems to just feel angry by their reaction. She even calls them all bad people for getting so angry. But in the end, they offer to donate all of their clothes so that the others won’t have to.

So as a reward, OxiClean (so much product placement already this season) is going to donate $5000 to Dress for Success, and the house guests get a pool party that even the have-nots will get to enjoy. Now, I want to go back and watch some of the feeds because I feel like we didn’t get the whole story, but basically, Nikki seems to have drunk all the vodka. As far as I can tell, the others are annoyed, but they don’t seem overly upset about it, but she freaks out, defending herself before taking off. Tim placates her when the two are alone; by saying the others are a bunch of turds, though I don’t know if he actually thinks that way. At some point he makes it back down to the party, and when someone asks if Nikki is flaking on them, he offers to go find her. I’m guessing he feels responsible for her, since they’re both sort of the outsiders at the moment. He can’t find her though, since she’s in the DR, bawling her eyes out and having a fit about how much she hates it there and how much she wants to go home. If she’s not careful, she’s going to get her wish.

After all that drama, Raul asks Ramsey to lead him through a Muslim prayer, and it’s really nice and peaceful. Ramsey is extremely touched that someone wants to know more about his background and who he is, and I think it’s kind of cool that the two opposing sides of the house are coming together to make peace, even if for a brief time.

Meanwhile, while Loveita and Maddy are exercising, Loveita talks to her about the vote. She may have not wanted to campaign against her friend a few days ago, but that feeling has clearly changed since then, as Loveita tells Maddy that it would be best to keep her around, since she’s a bigger threat than Maddy or Sharry, so she’d make a better shield. And then she goes on to tell Maddy that Sharry is friends with the other side of the house. What?! Why would anyone believe that? Maddy certainly doesn’t, and can’t believe that Loveita would do that to her friend. So what does she do? Why, she goes straight to Sharry, of course, and tells her the whole thing, who seems just as surprised by the revelation. Now, at this point, I’d have run to everyone in the house and told them all what a big liar Loveita is. I’d air her stuff all over the place as revenge for such a blatant lie. But Sharry decides not to drag her “friend” through the mud. She’s going to take the high road. The high road! Sharry! You’re being ridiculous! This is your best chance to stay in the house, and you’re not taking it? What is wrong with you?! The most she does is give Loveita the fakest hug ever when they pass by each other in the hall and make a tiny little passive-aggressive comment about playing a clean game. Ridiculous!

But it’s too late. At the eviction ceremony, she keeps it all inside, and everyone but Nikki votes her out. I’m honestly surprised by the vote. It’s odd that a few days ago, everyone on team Kelsey wanted nothing more than to boot Loveita out of the house, and now they almost unanimously vote Sharry out instead. Did they take Joel’s advice to heart that much? Did Loveita convince them all that Sharry was a more dangerous person to leave in the house? I have no idea, but it’s final: Sharry is gone, and Loveita is here to stay and for even longer than just a week.

At the HoH competition, titled Big Brother Breakaway, the house guests have to roll a ball around some hockey players toward a bank of slots at the other end of the rink, and the person who lands it in the slot with the highest points becomes the new HoH. Cassandra holds the spot for quite a while, until Tim dethrones her. Joel beats him, who is beaten by Nick, and finally, the last person to go is Loveita, who wins the game. Loveita is HoH again!

That is great news for Maddy and Ramsey, but I’ll bet Jared and Kelsey and Raul are quaking in their boots right now. They’d had a chance to get rid of her, and they didn’t take it. Now they’ll have to deal with the aftermath of that decision, just like Loveita had to last week. But will she target them again after what happened this week? Or will she try to work with them instead? If she works with them, she has to know that she’ll be at the bottom of their group and will be easy pickings, even if they agree to work with her for a while. It might be in her best interests to rally the floaters and boot Kelsey or Jared instead, and sever the head of that beast. I’m honestly not sure what she’ll do. I think Nikki may have a little to be nervous about too, since she voted against Loveita. Tim should be okay though, since Loveita seems to trust him. Thankfully.

What do you think will happen? Who will be her nominees? And who will be the next out? And what hell will the Complaint Cupboard wreak on the house guests? I have no clue, but I can’t wait to find out.

  1. What a swing in power. Loveita is back on top. I don’t know if she’ll wipe the slate clean, but she should aim for the power couple and align with the underdogs. I know it’s BB, but I thought Sharry handled conflict well. It’s easy to imagine someone snapping and yelling where they learn of backstab, but Sharry was composed. After Dark was fun with complaint box, I wonder how much will make it on TV, same with Tim’s drunken pussycat game 😉 Another great review, I’m looking forward to the next edition.
