The latest storyline running through the Warlord’s book ends here by Michael Fleisher and Pablo Marcos with a battle between the New Gods and the forces of Apokolips in various cities across Skartaris. Desaad has been causing nothing but trouble for our hero over the last little while and now that he has found an ore that can increase a weapon’s potency, he makes his findings known to Darkseid who then agrees it is a good time to invade the primitive land and strip it of all its worth. Defending Skartaris becomes something of a problem as those invading forces have superior weapons to anything the men and women of the eternal sun might have and when you factor in the distrust that people have for Morgan now, any sort of cooperation between city-states becomes impossible. It is a good thing then that the New Gods get themselves involved and they help to turn the tide back the other way. Back in Kiro, Tara has escaped the clutches of Y’Smalla and faces off against her with Machiste confused as to what is happening, but when all is said done, they know that they must now defend Kiro’s walls from those invading aliens, despite all that just went down. Fleisher’s story is action-packed and an apt ending to the latest tale he has been building of late. There are still some resolutions to be had that were not present in this particular issue, one being the relationships between Morgan and Tara, Morgan and Machiste and the how the absent Mariah might ever be able to make it up to her friends for her recent betrayals. There is also the culmination of the plots with Power Girl and Jennifer and the newly transformed CIA agent that have yet to materialize. New Gods, Darkseid, Desaad, action, intrigue and mystery – this book has it all.
