The latest Bond theme is everything you can expect, grand and sweeping and even a little epic in tone. Sam Smith does a great job of it and whether you like the man or not, whether you think it was the wrong or right choice on the producer’s part really does not matter at this point as it is an already done deal. Congrats to Smith because he now finds himself in rare company and is a better award than any he will ever receive.

Personally, I love it. That being said, I totally understand where the criticism comes from. I was never a particular fan of themes like Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better” which, like this, had a lot less punch. I think the difference here is that it fits the more recent tone of the Bond films – somewhat deconstructive and more emotionally raw.
