Hanging out as they have a little bit of free time, Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle are learning a little bit about each other as they read the Sunday comics. Things go just a little screwy though when the comics they are reading start to come to life and when these fictional characters start to put the public in harm’s way, it is time for the All-Star Squadron to step in. As the series winds its way to its conclusion, Roy Thomas delivers another done-in-one story that takes place a little before Crisis on Infinite Earths and it sees our heroes in a bit of a fun, if unimportant tale. All of the usual hallmarks are here – witty banter, classic action and great teamwork and the book motors along at a good pace. It would have been nice to see a story that matters, one with a little risk and a decent payoff, but sometimes, a fun fill-in is good too. Of course our heroes win and save the day, there really could not have been any other outcome, and by doing so, vanquish their foes and the mastermind behind it all. This was a good, decent issue – nothing more and nothing less.
