Issue by Issue – The Warlord #100

Warlord_Vol_1_100
With the hundredth issue of The Warlord, the New Atlantean saga finally wraps up in an action-packed story worthy of its hero. This book also sees a change in authorship as Cary Burkett is absent and Michael Fleisher comes on board to finish up the tale that he started. To get to that point Morgan enacts his plan of facing off against Cykroth, the Atlantean wizard-king on his own though because he is unable to stop them, his friends lend him a helping hand and it is a good thing too otherwise he may not have succeeded. So while Travis battles the cyclopean monster, his compatriots including Krystovar, Machiste, Mariah, Tara and Shakira, run interference and Jennifer helps him by shielding him from the worst of Cykroth’s magics. It is an incredible battle as drawn by the talented Andy Kubert and the book was one of the better drawn issues to have ever been seen. Everyone gets their just desserts in this book including the Atlanteans, their general and Cykroth though not everyone on the side of good comes out unscathed either. There is loss and there is tragedy and it is good to see that there are consequences to this story coming out the other end of it. Nobody likes to see their heroes get hurt or injured or killed, but in the end, it makes for a much stronger story and adds just a little realism to it, even if it is simply a work of fiction. What will be most interesting is to see what will come out of this story. How will it affect all of our heroes and the relationships between them? Will Machiste and Mariah remain in the present or go back to the past? How will the citizens of not only Shamballah, but all of Skartaris fare now that the yoke of the Atlanteans has been lifted? Will everything just go back to normal or will everything be changed? Exploring all of these questions and more should be very entertaining with Fleisher at the helm now with a ton of exciting tales to come.
