Every now and then, Roy Thomas delivers a true, old-school, Silver/Golden-age tale that hearkens back to the best of those times and yet, taking into account the time that the book is published and the crossover of which it is a part of, no matter how good it might be, it is also its biggest weakness. Starring the Seven Soldiers of Victory, those heroes which include among their number The Shining Knight, Green Arrow and more, they fight the good fight against a dastardly villain and it is truly a fun story that features them in the best possible light. What would have been great though was to feature this somewhere else and not in this book, even though the ties between the teams are strong ones. One could blame the lack of direction on Crisis and how it is crossed over into almost every book, or maybe it was simply Thomas doing something different just for the sake of it, but getting back to what this book used to do would be much better than having a story like this no matter if it was enjoyable or not. Good, but not good enough.
