Landing upon an island last issue, Morgan finds that it is inhabited by Titans. It also seems like they rule all upon their land and Morgan is to be just another slave. Morgan of course, will not go quietly. But no matter the protestations, Morgan is captured and put in chains. There are not many Titans left and while getting caught and being in custody, Morgan starts killing them off. When there is only five of your number left, every loss is keenly felt and so Travis gets thrown in the gladiatorial pit where death is all but certain. Joining him, for daring to aid him, is a woman named Shakira. When all is said and done, The Warlord obviously emerges victorious and gets a new friend in the process who is able to turn herself into a cat. This particular issue was much better than the last, though combined they created a nice little adventure for our hero. It was a little sad to see that Mike Grell created a race of people/creatures and then had our hero make them extinct. They could have gone on to future storylines as more determined villains if he had left some of them alive. Shakira, while only making a small appearance thus far, and for people who have read these books before will know, she goes on to become one of the supporting characters and one of Morgan’s greatest allies. The interactions between Morgan and the Titans are hostile of course, but at times you almost wondered if he was going to Jim Kirk-it with the female leader. Almost. Great stuff from Grell and DC.
