Morgan is aboard a ship that is soon attacked by pirates and while defending her, is shot by an arrow and knocked overboard. He holds on for as long as he can, but sinks below the waves when his strength finally gives out. As he sinks he is rescued by a beautiful woman of the sea named Ligia. She heals his wounds and creates a life for them together where they live quite happily. But something is not right and Morgan’s mind begins to drift and Ligia knows it is only a matter of time before something happens, whether good or bad. When Ligia is attacked, that is the straw that cracks Morgan’s memory and everything comes back. A great little done-in-one by Mike Grell featuring our not completely, barbarous hero doing what he does best. Grell’s panel structure in this book is inventive and quite beautiful to look at, which matches the beauty of the story he is telling. The action is fierce and the time the two spend under the ocean seems tranquil and serene. Grell was nice enough to give our hero a little downtime this issue, even though it was a little sad in the end with Ligia having to give him up. Hopefully Morgan will come to terms with the death of his son and reunite with Tara and his friends. Time does pass faster in Skartaris so the longer he stays away; it is possible that years will pass.
