Mind Capsules – Original Sin #3 and Batman Eternal #9

Original Sin #3

Writer – Jason Aaron
Artist – Mike Deodato
Colours – Frank Martin

The third issue of Marvel’s newest big event finds our heroes capturing The Orb and gaining possession of the Watcher’s eye, but not before getting zapped and seeing the secrets they have held for so long.  As that is going on, the investigations by the various teams of heroes progress finding gamma irradiated bullets, casings, and more dead bodies of various things wherever they go.  Nick is perturbed by it all, and as the pieces come together he wonders why he did not get any revelations of secrets past when he was hit by the eye’s ray.  Gamora, Moon Knight and the Winter Soldier meanwhile discover the most interesting thing of all and in doing so; discover just who the killer might be.  Aaron and Deodato knock it out of the park once again with some great writing and killer artwork.  When the Panther, Emma Frost and Ant-Man are collecting the bullets from the dead monsters you could hear a pin drop and the suspense is palpable during the book’s latter half as the book moves towards its eventual conclusion and massive cliff-hanger.  With this book being so good and revealing so much so soon, it is impossible to think of just where it will go next.

Batman Eternal #9

Writer – Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes, Tim Seeley
Artist – Guillem March
Colours – Tomeu Morey

Commissioner Forbes thinks he is doing all right, that is until he meets with his boss, Falcone, who has a different idea on his performance altogether.  Despite that, Falcone has another job for him – apprehend Catwoman as she is becoming more of a nuisance than even the Batman.  Meanwhile, over in Hong Kong, Batman is hunting down clues to find a way to stop Falcone with a lot of action taking place, a little investigating and a huge cliff-hanger.  This week’s issue was quite fun and exciting with a more focused look into stopping the series’ big bad.  Nice to see one of the international Bat-men make an appearance for a bit and a cool way to tie him to Wayne Enterprises showing Bruce has an eye out to keep things tied to him and close to home.  It would be great to see this week’s ending looked at in the following issue, but the way the book has been going, we might have to wait a couple more for the resolution.  On the art front, Guillem March did an excellent job, much like most of the artists featured on the book so far, but it would be nice to see a more consistent look with only one or two instead of five or seven.
