Hawkman decides to take a little flight and get away from the army, to stretch his wings and relax a little bit. Suffice it to say, that did not last long when a giant eye swoops out of the sky and starts incapacitating planes that are heading to Hawaii. Luckily Starman is aboard one of the planes so that he can help out as they lose power and start to nosedive. Meanwhile back in Washington, Johnny Quick, Hawkgirl and the Shining Knight foil a Nazi plot to destroy the Washington monument, Doctor Midnite encounters the giant eye-ship, fun with Roosevelt and Churchill in the White House, Steel gets better after the previous issue’s tussle and everyone then meets up at the end to take on the alien eye and its pilot, Aknet who has come to annex the Earth. This was a big issue with some big action from Roy Thomas, Adrian Gonzales and Jerry Ordway. It was great to see Hawkman again, even if he has not come back to the fold full-time, as well as Starman and Doctor Midnite. Our regular lineup is still stamping out the Nazi menace wherever they find it, and sadly we even get to see Winston Churchill in nothing but a towel. Still a great book, but it would be nice if Thomas gave the leaders of the free world a break and let them do their thing without being in the book so much.
