After last issues climactic ending, Morgan must now battle his son to Deimos’ delight while Mariah, Tara and Machiste must fight for their lives outside. The fight between father and son is fierce with Morgan offering no resistance, until he must or perish. Being the warrior he is with a high survival instinct, Travis Morgan does the unthinkable and Deimos accomplishes what he set out to do – defeating Morgan by making him do the worst thing he can do. Mike Grell delivers a tense and dramatic story with no one really winning in the end when all is said and done. It is hard to imagine what killing your child must be like, but Grell manages to convey these very feelings through our hero. You end up feeling bad for the guy, not as the man who lost a battle, but as the father who lost his son. His companions do not do a whole lot in this issue except offer support both without and within the castle, but Tara does show her jealousy at one point to Mariah, with Mariah finally deciding she wants none of our hero now, in a romantic way that is. Leaving the book on a cliff-hanger of sorts, it lets you wonder just what might be next now that Morgan has set off on his own and with everything wide open storywise.
