Roy Thomas and Rich Buckler take our heroes, the combined might of the Justice Society and the All-Star Squadron, and send them to Pearl Harbour in the aftermath of the infamous attack.  The team decides to split into two, part of the team to stay and defend Pearl Harbour while the other half goes to confront the Japanese forces.  As they head over the Dragon King has a surprise for them as Hitler, who has the Spear of Destiny, and the Japanese premier, who has the Holy Grail, have cast a spell using the two objects to protect their assets, the Fortress Europa and the Greater East Asia Prosperity Sphere.  So when the team gets close to the Japanese they hit a mystic wall that affects their strongest members and turns them against the others.  Of course our heroes do eventually overcome the obstacles in their way and persevere, but the Dragon King escapes to confront them another day.  Another great issue, loaded with so much dialogue and story in twenty-seven pages it takes an extremely long time to make your way through it compare to today’s books.  Thomas and DC definitely made this book worth every penny.  One of the best team books there ever was and with so many members, it is a wonder they were not able to end the war themselves.

  1. You’ve got to admit, based on the match-ups on the cover, this fight is pretty lop-sided in favor of the JSA.

You can buy this comic for $1 on any number of back issue sites. That’s a great deal compared to most of the $3.99 books coming out nowadays.
