Mind Capsules – Captain America #19 and Black Widow #5

Captain America #19

Writer – Rick Remender
Artist – Nic Klein

In part three of the Iron Nail storyline, Captain America is on the Gungnir, trying his best to stop Dr. Mindbubble and the Iron Nail from their terrorist actions. While doing so, two helicarriors get blasted out of the sky and Cap’s actions start getting questioned by the media. Remender has been ramping up the action lately in the book to good effect and is a refreshing change to see Cap simply kicking butt and taking names. It is also great to see Remender not taking it easy on our flag-bearing hero and sending him up against some villains that are a little different than the norm. Captain America had it rough in Dimension Z and he has had it pretty rough ever since he has gotten back and it remains to be seen if he can keep it up without having a little bit of a breakdown. It will be interesting to see once the storyline is done, just where Remender will take him next. Great artwork by Nic Klein highlights an already good story by Remender, Marvel and company.

Black Widow #6

Writer – Nathan Edmondson
Artist – Phil Noto

First off, the artwork by Phil Noto is fantastic. It just keeps getting better and better, issue after issue. Expressive, dynamic, sparse and simplistic and yet utterly captivating, it draws you in panel after panel. Truly beautiful work. During this second part of the current story-arc, the Widow is looking to stop the ‘Hammer of God,’ the mad Russian from the previous issue. Eventually, she does, after some intel which is not as timely as she would have liked, and in the end only leads to bigger questions with fewer answers. Nathan Edmondson has been spinning a web for our super-spy and it has been an incredible joy to watch him weave it around her. This book has been a consistently great read with the intrigue level high, the action balanced nicely with the drama and suspense and the Widow, proving she is one of Marvel’s top female heroes.

  1. Well that is a shocker! Did not know Black Widow comics were that good! Cap looks interesting as well but never been a big enough fan of the dude to take a look at his comics!
