Mike Parobeck joins Len Strazewski for the next chapter in this Justice Society adventure, and it finds a returning Flash joining up with Hawkman, his former comrade-in-arms, reunited once more. After the little beating that Hawkman took at the hands of the celestial being, he may not be a hundred percent, but he does not know the meaning of the word quit. In the meantime, Flash has crafted a device to help locate the radiation from the living constellations, and after a bit of a chat, they head off to do what they do best. Elsewhere, Vandal Savage monologues about his greatness and his incredible plan, involving Solomon Grundy, the constellations and his prisoner Starman. To say the least, this book is packed with action and Parobeck does a spectacular job of making it as exciting as can be. Each page flows from one to the next, as a film would, Hawkman and the Flash battling the star monsters as best they can. They could hardly deal with one by themselves, and now there are two heroes and two creatures, and the odds have not improved. The celestial beings, for the most part, have the JSA’ers on the ropes, but as luck would have it, Flash and Hawkman discover a way to defeat the big two; it only remains to accomplish that very goal. As events wind down, Savage is more than angry and decides to get in on the action himself, taking matters into his own hands. With Starman’s Gravity Rod in hand, Savage takes the battle to his one-time foes and bests them easily, but a tiny wrench is thrown into the works, one that may be offset by the returning Solomon Grundy. Things definitely pick up in this title as they move towards their eventual conclusion. With Savage stating earlier on that he already has Black Canary and Green Lantern in custody, he now has Hawkman and Flash to add to that collection, which he thinks may be a good thing, but is most likely his undoing. Separately, he might have been able to control the heroes, but they are a formidable team once they are all back together. Strazewski continues to make things as fun as they can be while reintroducing these characters for a new generation. That being said, he also provides a little fan service for those long-time readers who have come to the series hoping to see their favourite characters on the page once more. As for where this goes, one can guess, but why bother when the ride is so enjoyable?
