While they try their best, GBC and its lead anchor Alan Scott are having a heck of a time trying to broadcast the news as they keep losing power. Even with a backup generator, something seems to be sucking the very power out of the building as fast as they can provide it. This leads Scott to transform into his alter ego, Green Lantern, when he and some others notice a giant energy creature as the culprit behind the power outages As it turns out, this being seems to be absorbing all of the energy in the surrounding area as well, including the television signal, and it does not intend to stop. So it is that Green Lantern takes matters into his own hands and attacks the being whom he realizes looks like the constellation Sagittarius. Author Len Strazewski and artist Mike Parobeck pack the book full of action, and once it starts, it continues until the very last page. As a result, they set a good pace and the story never lags or wants for attention, keeping its reader hooked from page to page. While Green Lantern battles the living constellation in the skies above, Black Canary has been knocked out cold down on the streets below and is being abducted with none the wiser, aside from one of Alan Scott’s GBH employees. Also observing the theatrics is Solomon Grundy, and he wants to kill Green Lantern so much so that it is distracting him from everything else. Behind the scenes was a mysterious villain who has been orchestrating everything that has happened thus far, and Strazewski finally reveals it to be Vandal Savage, and while some might have guessed, now everyone knows for sure. The man has been a thorn in the side of the Justice Society for some time, and one still has to wonder what his ultimate goal is, though it is hinted at within these pages. Readers also have to wonder how Savage will be beaten when he has control of these celestial beings, a minion in Solomon Grundy, and given the fact that he has now defeated four members of the venerable team of do-gooders. One has to know that they will eventually make a comeback, but at this point, all seems lost. If there is one person who might be the key to making it happen, it has to be Starman, who seems broken at the moment, but he is a member of the team and deep down, there is still a hero within. With some great pencils put down by Parobeck and a rousing story by Strazewski, this was yet another exciting chapter in the JSA’s 1991 return.
