Dr. Deep is up to no good. The man is bent on world domination, and he means to get it. To accomplish this goal, he has created a device called the Transfer Ray that, when fired, transfers the mind of any living being with that of another. The man has also made it so that he can transfer minds between the living and the unliving, more specifically, robots. With his soon-to-be army of robots, he will first take over the seas and then the Earth. Suffice it to say, the Sea Devils mean to stop him. There is a problem, though. Dr. Deep is more wily than he seems and he manages to transfer Nicky and Biff’s minds into their robot counterparts before the Devils can apprehend him. Once in robot form, Dr. Deep is also able to control them, which is where that whole world domination thing comes in. Judy and Dane are now left to fend for themselves, and while they make a good show of it, Dane too is taken out of the game, his mind switched with that of a fish. That all being said, fish-Dane and Judy are left to stop Dr. Deep before he can proceed any further, and despite the overwhelming odds, they will give it their best and stop the madman. Once again, there is no credited writer for this issue, which is a bit of a shame, but even so, the story turned out to be a lot of fun, with the Sea Devils getting into trouble as they usually do and saving the day against all odds. Dr. Deep is a silly name, but one does have to remember that comics were written for kids and that nothing too ridiculous was out of the question when it came to the printed page. Howard Purcell and Sheldon Moldoff do a fantastic job once more with the pencils they provide for this issue. There may not have been any fantastical creatures to see with this one, but the robots made for a nice change of pace and a dire threat if there were any, at least under the control of Dr. Deep. In the end, Dr. Deep had a great plan and he most likely would have succeeded if he had not been so shortsighted, arrogant and cocksure. The man had few defenses and was not prepared for what the Sea Devils would do to protect themselves and the rest of the world from a crazed scientist such as he. As the tale wound up, Judy would ultimately save the day, a well-deserved spotlight on a team member who rarely gets a moment to shine, unlike the rest of the team. Exciting and adventurous stuff from start to finish.
