The film’s title alone makes one seriously ponder watching this movie, yet, after that initial reaction, a second thought enters one’s head. Either this is going to be the greatest picture anybody has ever seen or it is going to be the absolute worst. To be fair, it tends to lean towards the latter, but something about it still makes it worthwhile when all is said and done.
One can immediately tell that this film was made on a budget as it looks cheap, yet be that as it may, there is some decent production to it, at least during the first few minutes. It looked like the beginning of what might have been a television drama and then it pans to the local dive bar and proceeds to get worse from there. The quality control on all levels of this affair was quite poor. Everything was too dim, even when filming took place outside and because of that, everything looked grungy and poor. That was not such a bad thing as it worked towards the atmosphere and the horror of what one would assume would be some sort of zombie cannibal. There was one, though it was just some yokel that was probably plucked from the same bar and to say he could not act is putting it lightly. In fact, the entire cast was fairly terrible, all of them were probably randoms hired for the day or the week or however long it took to film this picture.
The story was all right, or at least the germs of it and one could see what the makers of this movie were going for, but the execution was lacking, the script
poor and everything around it just as bad. The music was terrible and there was no set score or type, it simply meandered wherever the director decided he was in the mood for. As for the horror, aside from the zombie chef himself, there was little of it. There were a couple of kills with just a touch of blood to be had and a couple of loose limbs here and there and it is understandable why there was not anymore to be had but it did hamper the production, especially given the title which promises a lot to its audience. If a little more money had been poured into this thereby increasing the blood and guts and so forth, it might have helped the film quite a bit instead of being the tame soiree that made its way to video.
There is one excruciating scene where the audience will see that even the director might have given up on this thing, realizing that he needed something to beef it up and so decided to throw in a couple of women dancing topless in the bar with said zombie chef and it was terrible. Really terrible. There were also a few moments where some comedy was shoehorned in and it too was not funny in the slightest, though one has to give everyone in this film credit for trying. At the end of the day, as bad as this movie is, as good as Gore-Met, Zombie Chef From Hell is, it is ultimately cheesy, ridiculous and simply put, poor.
