The Take – Decades after first premiering, Joe Casey and Sebastián Ruiz bring Jonny Quest back into the public eye with this debut issue. It all begins with a mystery, the island is not as it once was. Things are overgrown, look old, and are in general disrepair. It looks uninhabited as if nobody has lived on the island for years, which is quite strange. It all leads to one conclusion as Jonny and the team investigate – they must have travelled through time when they were stuck in the storm. With things the way they are, it is the only explanation and so, as they think about the situation they soon find themselves being attacked by a multitude of drones with no way of knowing who is behind it. Casey is the perfect man to write this book being no stranger to teams or intellectual properties and he does an excellent job with this first issue. One knows that the key to making a story interesting is just how good the writing is and yet, when it comes to a comic book, the art is just as important and probably even more so when it comes to a property such as this. Jonny Quest has a distinctive look and while one could change it up into a different style, it is a signature of the property and changing it would be a disservice not only to the character but to those readers who might be longtime fans. Thankfully, Ruiz was up to the task and his pencils are clean, sharp and perfectly suited to this title. Jonny and Race and Bandit have never looked better and Ruiz not only knows how to make them look good but he knows how to make the book exciting. With all of these classic elements in play, the characters, the style and the look of the book, what better villain to go with than good old Dr. Zin who is definitely not in the best of shape all these years later. It should be quite interesting to see where it goes from here and even more so as the team runs into an old friend who has been holding the fort down as best he can given the circumstances. All of this proves that Jonny Quest is in the right hands and makes for an intriguing, gripping and thrilling read. As it stands, the second issue cannot come fast enough.

Worth It? – Yes.
