Things in the land of Oz and the Emerald City are settling down now that the threat of Dolnar and Singra is over, at least for the moment. The King of Ev is headed back home to rule his kingdom once more and those who remain are very interested in Sean and how he came to wield the magic seen in the previous issue. Sean for his part, has no idea though he is careful as to what he says, the words he has been hearing whispered into his head telling him to do so. Readers come to learn that his Walkman is sentient and that the songs throughout the various issues published so far were not a soundtrack but the machine talking to Sean the only way it knew how. As for how it knows what it knows about the goings on in Oz, that is another story for another day. Gary Bishop and Bill Bryan then go into a bit of the mundane, though it is no less interesting as the Tin Man gets a new arm, Wogglebug is called upon to inspect Queen Ozma in the hopes that he might provide some sort of useful information, Sean finds the Powder of Life and the Tin Man gets a new horse thanks to that very same substance. Much like the last three issues, Bishop packs the book full, there being a lot going on and the man wasting no time moving things forward in a number of ways. One of those plots is the story of Ozma, who while still in a coma, is experiencing some strange dreams or maybe, they are not really dreams at all. The dreams are nightmares in fact and they are quite awful and Ozma is quite distraught about them though they do not wake her from the coma she is in. With her body thrashing about, one might think it would but again, it is something Bishop will most likely explore in a future issue. As for Bryan, the man does an exceptional job with the artwork once again, the man drawing things he has never done before such as the mechanical workings of the Tin Man and that fantastical horse that makes its first appearance in this book. All of it ends with a new mystery and the answer to a question, sort of, that has persisted since the title first began – what of Dorothy? Readers are made privy to her current whereabouts but there are some things that do not gel with the last time that she was seen and that can most likely be attributed to the Book of Undo and the spell that Ozma cast. As it stands, things are getting very interesting and it should be a lot of fun seeing just where they lead.
