Mark Harris, the erstwhile Man From Atlantis is now a prisoner of Skorba, a man who is searching for something at the North Pole. Deep within an active volcano lies a primeval jungle as well as a hidden lake which is where Mark comes in for it is within its waters that the object Skorba seeks currently lies. What that is though is unknown, perhaps even Skorba does not even fully know what it is that he wants but he does know it lies below and that Mark is the only person who will be able to get it. So upon the threat of the death of his friends, Mark does what he must and it is no easy task as the waters are filled with man-eating dinosaurs, creatures he has no experience with. Thankfully, he is able to do what is needed and soon reaches an underground cavern where he discovers the ruins of a city or at least part of one. Exploring a little further he discovers a skeleton who must have been the ruler of this long-forgotten place due to the crown upon its head but before he can investigate further, he finds himself under attack. Bill Mantlo and Frank Robbins continue the story they began in the last issue as Skorba also feels the heat up above as he and his men face off against a dinosaur. Making things just a little more difficult is the fact that they cannot seem to do anything to harm it and it is only luck or fate that drives it off. Skorba has an inkling that it might be Mark that sent it against them, not knowing that below the surface Mark is battling for his life against a woman and her two vicious dogs. Readers are in for a bit of a shock when Mantlo concludes the story on a cliffhanger and it leaves them wondering just who is the real foe if foe there be. This was a fun tale yet again, one that gives readers exactly what they want with a fair amount of action and suspense and a bit of a surprise too. Where it leads is unknown though one could guess that Mark will eventually win out but Mantlo could throw everyone for a loop and do something completely unexpected. A solid book overall that makes one want more.
