The Thirsty Dead is a film that puts another spin on the whole immortality thing and while it is really not all that bad of a picture, it is so drawn out that it feels like you have been watching it for days instead of just an hour and a half or so. A lot of movies like to take their time in getting to where they are going and that is fine, there is nothing wrong with a
slow burn, but in this case, it was at a glacial pace. If there had been some sort of action to move it along or if they had cut at least half of it away, perhaps it might have improved the viewing experience, but such as it was, you could not help but be bored with it all for most of its running time.
The story itself was decent, featuring a cult that abducts young women and
takes them deep into the jungle. Said cult needs the blood of these young ladies if they are to remain alive and immortal and while it is good for them, it is not so good for the ladies who wish to continue living.
At the best of times, this movie was more like a late 50’s/early 60’s melodrama and
perhaps it would have played out better on television rather than being made into a feature film. For a horror movie, anything that might have been considered as such was sucked dry and deflated by the monotony of it all. The script was written well which was more than a little surprising and the acting was quite good for the most part. Simply put, if it had all been paced better, it would have been a much stronger and much more interesting film. By the end of the movie, things finally pick up and by that point it really matters very little as it is as previously stated, the end. The Thirsty Dead is not a terrible movie nor is it all that bad. It simply tries your patience and if there is one thing you do not want when trying to enjoy a film, it is a picture that makes it hard to do so.

I’ve always loved that title, but have never seen this.
I was always under the impression that it was explicit. It doesn’t sound that way here though.

Nope – the farthest thing from explicit as you can possibly get.
