Lacking – Necrophagus (1971)

Necrophagus 1
The only reason to ever watch Necrophagus, or Graveyard of Horror which it is also known as, is out of curiosity and nothing more. There is little to redeem this picture written and directed by Miguel Madrid. The direction is a little better than the script, but the film is just a hodgepodge of scenes that rarely seem connected except for the fact that they star at least one of the players throughout. Necrophagus 6Some people think that it makes sense and perhaps Madrid is a genius, but for the casual movie watcher, or even for an experienced one, without multiple viewings or an intense concentration, the film is just a little hard to follow as nothing really seems to make sense.

Necrophagus 7One of the better things about it is that very fact as it creates a sense of mystery. You want to see what happens and the very nature of the film’s unevenness, which is usually a bad thing and is not the most attractive feature of this movie, manages to keep you hooked. Necrophagus 8As a horror, it is not very scary even in the slightest, but it is strange and the creature that is often heard more than it is seen and looks terrible when it finally shows up near the end of the picture, is not even worth the price of admission.

The dubbing is bad, the music eclectic, the actresses attractive and everything else simply odd and if looking for something that will give you a scare, Necrophagus is not that picture. Interesting, but never boring and not exactly a bad watch, it is just different and for some, it might be too different.
