Nina Simone has been in the news of late, not for anything that she might have done when she was still with us, but for a new biopic which will be hitting theaters soon starring Zoe Saldana. Some say Saldana is the wrong actress for the role, others not and some say the movie is accurate while many disagree. Whatever the case, it shines a light upon an artist who made some truly great music and above all, that should not be forgotten. Simone recorded many albums and a lot of music during her life and could move from one style to the next with ease, could deliver ballads, protest songs and low-key affairs and yet, no matter the work, you simply could not help but be enamoured of it. Listening to her music today, you find it timeless which is the way all good music should be and whether that has to do with her classical influences or that fantastic voice, you know that it will live on long past any of us which is a legacy few artists achieve.
