Mind Capsules – Dawn/Vampirella #2 and Earth 2 World’s End #7

The demon that has captured both Dawn and Vampirella is ready for round two and it mirrors what happened during the first one as he wants to hear another story and this time it is Vampirella’s turn.  Vampirella’s tale is one of two sisters who set out upon a quest to see who will rule after their father passes away.  Linsner fills it with action and betrayal, drama and tension and creates a very compelling story.  This issue was quite entertaining and it is great to see these two characters in a series together, especially by Dawn’s very own creator.  The artwork is exceptional, as Linsner’s always is and this book is fun to look at even if that is all you manage to do.  The only problem with this book is that it is much like the first and does not really do anything whatsoever to advance the story.  It is still a good book, but it would have been nice to see something happen other than a repeat of what went on in the last issue.  What will be interesting to see is where Linsner takes our heroines in the next book as they try to get along and work together, which seems hard to do at times as they both have very strong personalities.  Though it might take a while for the book to come out, as it looks to be on a bimonthly schedule, it is worth the wait if a fan of either one of these characters.

World’s End keeps on trucking with another issue filled with a lot of action, some evil machinations from the bad guys, a moment with Green Lantern and his pals and the arrival of everyone’s favourite magician, John Constantine.  The entire book is its usual enjoyable self except for the Constantine sequence which actually felt like it was shoehorned in.  As Constantine is a part of Futures End, and now this title, there must be some grand scheme that DC has in mind if they plan on featuring him in both books.  As of this moment, it feels out of place and if it goes the route of Futures End, it will be a waste of space as well.  It would almost be preferable if he were not in the book as he is like the kid nobody wants on their team and here he is on both.  Aside from that whole issue, there are some good moments in the book, specifically with Batman and his team, with Doctor Fate and the Motherbox and a little with the Huntress who tries to stand up to Desaad.  The artwork was a little shoddier than usual in this book and looked a little rough in places and proves that the book would benefit from a rotating team of steady pencillers like Batman Eternal.  A good issue, just not as good as the previous ones.
