Bad Guys and Good Guys – Fort Bowie (1958)

Image
The Native Americans come to talk to the soldiers under a white flag and what happens?  The soldiers open fire and kill most of them.  The major it seems thinks the Indian problem is just that, and needs to be dealt with by any means possible.  Word of the slaughter got back to camp and the reservation faster than  possible and Victorio escaped with an intent to slaughter as many white men and soldiers as possible.  Meanwhile, Tomahawk Thompson is sent to retrieve the general’s wife, and while doing so, come across Victorio’s handiwork along the way.  Things soon become overly complicated when the colonel’s wife soon becomes enamoured of Thompson, and he of her, and when the colonel finds out he has just the perfect mission for him.  Of course, things all come to a head between the good guys and the bad guys – though when watching this film in this day and age, we all know who the good guys actually were.

Pretty standard western fare.  Nothing really new here to differentiate it between this and a couple of hundred other similar films.  Ben Johnson and Jan Harrison do a decent job as the male and female leads respectively.  There is not a lot to work with here as they have probably portrayed the same role more than once.  This film is truly only for those who love of the genre.  The one good thing about it is that it is entertaining.  It keeps you hooked for that hour and twenty-one minutes or so, and at least kills some time should you be bored.  Check it out if you have nothing else to watch whatsoever.
