Jonah Hex has been captured by The Conglomerate after trying to break into one of their facilities in order to steal enough Soames to fund an attack against Borsten with the ultimate goal of getting back to his own time. Suffice it to say, things did not exactly go as planned. Hex and Stiletta soon meet the man in charge and he has an offer for the two, or at least for Hex specifically and it provides a way for Hex to possibly come out of this alive and to get himself back home. All of this involves more of Hex than anything else though and should things go wrong, Jonah will either find himself in a tube full of gas or dead, neither of which really appeals to the man. Written by Michael Fleisher with artwork from Mark Texeira, the book looks great and reads just as well and while it begins somewhat sedated, it kicks into high gear towards the end with Hex doing what he does best as he takes on an army of soldiers. There are many plots going on aside from that involving the man out of time including that of the Vietnam-era soldier named Harris who also escapes from Borsten’s men, though he remains in the building, also looking to get himself back home. Additionally, there is the tale of Borsten who has decided to make one more trip to the past, the final one needed to complete his master plan and yet one that will be the most dangerous yet as he has not fully recuperated from the last one. Finally, there is one small plot involving a soldier looking to get a little revenge against Hex for killing his father which could prove to be the hero’s undoing. Fleisher peppers the book with some great characterization and history, Hex’s attitude somewhat outdated in this future era as he only wants to protect Stiletta even though she can protect herself, not to mention Stiletta coming into her own in this issue with a look at her origin. There is also a bit of history on where the Soames came from and where it all went wrong, leading to the events currently underway. Featuring great action, drama and more, the sixth issue of Hex delivered on all fronts.
