Due to the unknown machinations of a few students, they created a robotic Hulk that would soon be imbued with cosmic rays thereby granting it incredible strength and sentience, at least of a sort. That Hulk then went on a rampage and battled Ikaris and Sersi with the two of them unable to do anything about the creature and now in this particular issue, that battle continues. Time after time, Ikaris throws himself at the monster only to be cast off as if he is no more than but a fly and in-between those attacks, Sersi casts her magic to no avail. What becomes even more apparent is that much like the real Hulk, the longer this fight drags on, the stronger that this creature becomes and it is not too long before Earth forces get involved, Makkari decides to intervene and finally Zuras steps in with what is hopefully a final solution. Jack Kirby continues to pack the book with action and excitement, more than any other title of the time can probably lay claim to and it shows in every panel on every page. What is so great about Kirby’s artwork is the fact that it is both raw and polished at the same time, no thanks in part to Mike Royer’s steady hand at inking and as the battle progresses one can easily see the toll it is taking on Ikaris. The man looks worn and tired, yet still holds a strength within his features and Kirby’s pencils have never looked better. There is little plot in this second part of the Kirby’s current story, it simply consisting of a fight between two very great forces. The writing is strong, the artwork stronger and it leaves the reader wanting more when all is said and done – a perfect way to end a book if there ever were one.
