After escaping Slitherogue and the Time Tower back into the prehistoric land that they first found themselves in, Skull, Ann, Jeff and the injured Dr. Corey may think themselves due for a bit of respite, but they would be quite wrong. No matter where our heroes find themselves, there is always trouble to be found and the fact that they have been finding it difficult to get along with each other makes it even harder to survive the perils that come their way. While Bill Mantlo chronicles the trials of Skull and his companions in the main story, he also cuts back to the Black Knight who faces off against Slitherogue with the result of that conflict being the destruction of the Time Tower. The reader is also privy to the tribulations of another survivor of the plane crash who managed to stay on Earth and not get sucked into the Bermuda Triangle. In this case, it is the man who was tasked with escorting Skull to prison, one Lancer by name. Lancer is a bitter man, made hard by his experiences in the war, a time when he knew Skull even then. To say that things were not always the friendliest between them is putting it lightly and now, in the present as he is dragged aboard a boat to safety, he vows to keep up his quest to find Skull and make sure he gets what is coming to him. As it is, Dr. Corey is in a bad place having taken an an arrow in the shoulder and it now getting infected. While Skull almost reluctantly helps out, they must also face the dangers of the terrain they find themselves in, including cavemen and giant dinosaurs. They get a little help after finding part of the downed plane where they scrounge for supplies, but as things stand, they have a long ways to go whether they make peace with staying in the time they find themselves stranded in or in getting back home. Either way, things are not going to get any easier and if they are to do one or the other, they need to get along and start working together.
