Spider-Woman #2

Jessica is still trying to figure out what is what on Loomworld, the home base for the Inheritors when she starts running into problems.  For one, everyone seems to recognize her which means that somewhere, there is another Jessica Drew.  Also, for some reason she is unable to fathom, when she ends up exchanging places with this world’s Jessica Drew, she finds she is in a relationship with Morlun.  As if things could not get any worse for her or the team.  With the second issue of Spider-Woman, the Spider-Verse crossover event continues and author Dennis Hopeless makes it a whole lot of fun.  Loomworld seems like quite the interesting place with so much going on, it makes it a little hard for Jessica to get her bearings.  The big question is why are Morlun and her opposite number in a relationship?  Is Loomworld’s Jessica Drew not a spider-totem?  It would be the only thing that made sense because even if Morlun did not feel the need to snack on her, any one of his siblings would.  Silk manages to swing by after getting herself in a bit of trouble, but also strands Jessica by doing so on this hostile world.  There is a bit of a revelation concerning the place Silk jumps to which could possibly play a part in the crossover, though for the moment, we will just have to wait and see.  Greg Land provides some fantastic looking artwork that really gives the book a nice energy and despite what people may say, the man can draw better than most.  With a great cliff-hanger and some good mystery this title keeps rolling along at a good pace.  Well worth your time.

Earth 2 World’s End #11

Darkseid is loose thanks to Mister Miracle and things are going from bad to worse for our heroes.  Big Barda changes sides in the midst of battle and so does Fury, though who can say if they mean it or not at the moment.  The fact that the ruler of Apokolips is free does not bode well for anyone.  Here was an issue that was really great to see – a feature length story about good versus evil with some of the gray in-between and all drawn by essentially, one artist.  The pacing from the rest of the series was still present and still at breakneck speed, it still felt relevant, maybe more so and it was exciting to read.  Batman Eternal does these kinds of issues quite regularly while Futures End has done only a couple and it would be great to see World’s End take its cue from the former rather than the latter.  While it is nice to see movement on all the storylines, sometimes you need to move them along a little more briskly and this issue did just that.  Also good to see, aside from Darkseid, is Mister Miracle getting the love from Wilson, Bennett and Johnson.  This was a nice change of focus in the book as it was starting to lose a little bit of direction and most especially, it was nice to see one consistent voice in the artwork instead of the mess that we usually get.
